A monumental dining table crafted from sustainably salvaged English Oak, secured by traditional joinery and hand-forged iron. Built by hand. Guided by time. Made for generations.
We believe a dining table is the emotional hearth of a home. It is where stories are spoken, bread is broken, and lifetimes are recorded. It should not come from a flatpack box, nor should it be engineered to decay.
The No. 4 Dining Table is our protest against speed. Each table begins its journey as a fallen or naturally dying English Oak, salvaged from historical woodlands. We mill the wood ourselves, letting it air-dry for years until the moisture level perfectly balances with our workshop climate.
We use no modern screws, dowel pins, or glue to fuse the main slabs. Instead, we adapt century-old Japanese *tsugite* and Shaker joinery methods, letting the timber swell and breathe naturally over the changing seasons.
A marriage of natural wood fiber and hand-forged iron. These are the three elements that allow the No. 4 table to stand for two centuries.
The table legs pierce the massive oak top through hand-chiselled mortise joints, wedged with dark walnut keys. No screws, just mechanical tension.
Natural fractures in the live-edge slab are stitched together with hand-inlaid butterfly keys. This controls the wood's movement while honoring its character.
Underneath, a hand-hammered iron tension truss anchors the grain. Each bolt is forged in our coal hearth, carrying a deep, charred charcoal texture.
Select the dimensional and material parameters. Our master woodworkers will handcraft the No. 4 table to these exact architectural specifications.
Every crack is stabilised by hand with contrasting timber keys, creating a gorgeous graphic element.
Each table is permanently stamped beneath the timber slab with the exact coordinates of the tree's origin, the signature of the lead artisan, and its unique registry number.
A full 3-inch thick solid top panel milled from a single historic log.
Because we salvage our timber naturally, we only commission a limited number of tables each year. By entering our registry, you will secure an artisan slot in our queue.
David Mallet will draft a custom 2D joinery layout of your exact oak slab for approval.
Receive a certified booklet documenting the exact geographic location and history of the oak tree salvaged for your table.
We have entered your commission into our Gloucestershire workshop queue. David Mallet will personally reach out to your email within 48 hours with a timber sheet layout and next steps.
